The Innovation Expo is a conference focusing on connecting entrepreneurs, innovators, angel investors, venture capitalists, and the many others who are involved in developing startup companies. The event will consist of speakers, breakout sessions, and networking focusing on the entrepreneurial community.

Mike Boucher has founded and successfully exited two technology companies. His first, Dakota Scientific Software, developed innovative algorithms in high-speed software that enabled supercomputers to run nuclear stockpile stewardship, car crashes, and aerodynamics simulations on machines with up to several thousand CPUs. He sold the company to Sun Microsystems, then stayed at Sun working on a variety of projects including an experimental machine with 256K processors and 4 petabytes of RAM. His second company, Dakota Legal Software, developed software to help for lawyers and legal professionals write their briefs and legal memoranda. He sold that last year. He is currently an Entrepreneur in Residence at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology at an entrepreneurial program for students and recent alumni called the Mines Venture Project.

Brian has spent 17 years in the Telecommunications software industry and became the Technology Manager for a billing and operational support system early in his career. He has passion for solving complex problems and systems thinking. An innovative leader with the ability to effectively communicate, facilitate transformation, and provide vision within a diverse group. Over the past few years, Brian has designed, developed, and deployed mobile applications with teams of Computer Science student interns enforcing quality and maintainability. Brian works as an Adjunct Instructor teaching Mobile Computing and Senior Design as well as assisting with Software Engineering for the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. He holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering and an M.S. in Technology Management from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.

Kyle's technical background focuses on mechanical engineering. During his academic career, he acquired expertise in the areas of optics, optical transmission spectroscopy, polymeric materials, stress analysis, composites and electro-mechanics. Additionally, he had the opportunity to work on a U.S. Department of Defense grant to develop an optical fiber sensor system to monitor in-situ the stresses experienced by high stress components within an aircraft during flight. The system also allowed for in-situ monitoring of the overall structural health of these parts during routine maintenance. Initial research efforts culminated in the issuance of a US patent covering a particular embodiment of this invention.

Sharice joined TVCDC in 2014. She manages a variety of the day to day operations, acts as in house counsel and is developing a worker owned enterprise program. After graduating from Cornell Law School, Sharice began her legal career at an international law firm as a corporate transactional attorney. Her practice included representation of private equity clients on mergers and acquisitions and in financing those deals. Additionally, she provided legal representation on a variety of tribal level financing, from traditional loans to taxable and tax-free bond offerings. After leaving corporate practice, Sharice moved to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota where she took a position with Red Cloud Indian School as the Director of the Economic Development Initiative where she developed an entrepreneurship curriculum that was implemented at the high school level. After the development of that program, Sharice started Hoka Coffee Company on the Reservation. Sharice received a Bachelors in Business Administration from the University of Missouri in Kansas City.

She was formerly a full-time Professor of Marketing in the M.B.A. programs at Pepperdine, UCLA, and Notre Dame. Kathryn joined a high-tech fMRI-based market research start-up affiliated with neuroscientists at UCLA, the place she earned her doctoral degree with a dissertation centered on the use of metaphor when communicating about complex and/or highly innovative new products. Kathryn also previously worked in a large management consulting firm in Chicago that specializes in expert litigation support. Kathryn grew up in Rapid City and recently returned after living for many years in Santa Monica, CA.
